A cohesive campaign that elevated awareness, strengthened MCA Chicago’s cultural position, and created a flexible platform for future exhibition marketing.

Boldly Contemporary, Purely Chicago

The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago has spent more than five decades championing the work of living artists and shaping the conversation around contemporary culture. As one of the world’s preeminent museums of contemporary art, its challenge was not simply to promote exhibitions, but to communicate the museum as a dynamic cultural institution where new ideas, diverse perspectives, and meaningful dialogue converge.

The Bureau of Small Projects developed an integrated advertising campaign that positioned the MCA as more than a destination—it became an invitation to participate in contemporary culture. Grounded in audience research and cultural insight, the campaign distilled the museum’s ambitious mission into a compelling creative platform that was both intellectually engaging and emotionally accessible. Bold visual storytelling, refined messaging, and a flexible campaign system worked together across digital, print, outdoor, and environmental media to create a cohesive public presence that reflected the energy, curiosity, and relevance of the institution itself.

Rather than asking audiences to simply view art, the campaign encouraged them to experience it—to question, discover, and engage with the ideas shaping our world today. The result was a distinctive communications platform that elevated awareness, strengthened the museum’s cultural position, and created a lasting framework for future exhibition marketing while honoring the MCA’s enduring commitment to innovation, education, and community.
