Telling Heartfelt Stories
Repositioning a non-profit to target emerging business
U.S. veterans often face challenges as they transition to civilian life, including significant barriers to civilian employment. This contributes to their exceptionally high suicide rate—twice that of the general population, according to a 2015 study by the National Institute of Mental Health. Meanwhile, a 2014 study by Accenture and The Manufacturing Institute showed that half of U.S. manufacturers expect to increase production in the next five years—however, the current shortage of skilled U.S. workers will significantly increase production costs. Workshops for Warriors is directly addressing both of these challenges, providing veterans and wounded warriors with advanced manufacturing training, industry-recognized certification, and job placement for careers in welding, machining, and fabrication at no cost to the veteran.
Workshops for Warriors approached The Bureau Of Small Projects to do a complete redesign of their website, create a world class donation portal and update their platform so that it was responsive, SEO optimized and easy for volunteers to update.
The Bureau Of Small Projects conducted extensive research into the unique culture within Workshops for Warriors and realized that the best way to engage people in their cause was simply to tell their stories. It is such a heartfelt mission that virtually everyone can jump onboard with, that all we really had to do is introduce these people. As such, we commissioned portrait photographer Frank Rogozienski to spend a few days with WFW and get them to open up on camera. As you can see the results were spectacular.
