Turn Your Blog Readers Into Customers Part One
You are fired up to get your blog off the ground. You have a few under our belt but you aren’t fully confident in your abilities to create customers from your efforts. This article will help you turn your readers into customers.
What Keeps Your Customers Up at Night?
We’re assuming you know your audience at this point and what keeps them up at night. Write content that resolves pain points and problems.
Pain point topics are great because people come to your site looking for a solution to a problem. Providing education for those problems helps your readers and establishes you as an expert. This is obvious of course, but you’d be amazed how many people get writer’s block when they first start blogging.
If you need some topics, engage with your customers through emails or social posts and create a list of topics. Ask them what they want but don’t sell to them in your articles. It’s a big turn off these days.
Write For Your Audience, Not Yourself
We see a lot of this in About Us sections on the websites where people write as if they were the reader. You’ve seen this too — WAY too much detail with long paragraphs with no spaces about their story that has little to do with what their customers want.
Write articles that appeal to your audience both in tone and subject matter. Don’t use confusing acronyms or industry jargon. Write as one person speaking to another because in essence that is exactly what you are doing here. Keep it focused and to the point.
Plan Your Articles
Some people like to start with the subject matter and what they want to accomplish with the article. It’s not a bad idea to start with an engaging headline then create a few bullet points about that headline that you then turn into paragraphs. Anticipate the most relevant questions. Think of this as a mini outline. It can save you lots of time.
Keep it Short and Concise Linking to Other Articles
If you are covering a topic that requires a fair amount of information break it up into multiple articles. People love bite-sized information they can consume at their own pace. Write for people that skim.
Use short paragraphs. Remember a paragraph on a phone looks three times as long as it does on your computer. Use bullets where appropriate. Use subheadings, like this article does.
Link to other blogs related to the one they are currently on. Keep your audience reading!
Sharpen Those Pencils
Okay that’s enough to digest for now. Sharpen your pencil (or stylus) and get cracking on problem solving articles for your readers. Next up is an article on marketing strategies to convert your readers into customers.
