What if Da Vinci Was a Marketer
Leonardo Da Vinci would probably have been an amazing marketer. See how he would approach business growth and profitability.
What if Da Vinci Was a Marketer
With the release of Ken Burn’s Da Vinci documentary it made me think about how Leonardo Da Vinci would approach marketing. Here are my thoughts on the topic.
Deep, Deep, Deep Observation and Analysis
Leonardo spent many hours observing people in social gatherings and conversations sitting and chatting, dissecting animals and studying just about everything and how it works and then drawing and documenting his observations. Historians estimate his notes and sketches totaled almost 30,000 pages.
One of his quotes is very applicable to marketing which is: “The greatest deception men suffer from is their own opinions.”
He would definitely be a champion of studying data and studying the competition. He’d be an expert at interpreting Google Analytics, Google Ads and control panel metrics for all his channels because he would know his opinion is only one data point toward executing effective marketing plans.
Meticulous Testing and Simplicity
His amazing and painstaking painting techniques from perspectives to three-dimensional layering would steer him toward being a meticulous tester of campaigns, ads and the various parameters, yet he would know to keep things simple, referencing this quote of his.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
Creativity Fuels Results
His very deep-thinking approach to his paintings’ subject matter to crafting his inventions would equip him with the creative skills to create unique and engaging campaigns, ads and media assets. He’d understand data drives decisions, creativity fuels results.
Creating a Plan
Da Vinci would create and document marketing strategy and plans.
“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards a ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast.”
Emotion and Passion
“Tears come from the heart and not the brain.”
His marketing work would reflect great emotion and passion because he knew how important the human aspect to all things was. The emotion reflected in his paintings is astounding.
Paint Your Own Mona Lisa
So as you dig into your marketing efforts, study the data and competition, keep it simple, work hard on creativity and emotion and document your plan for success.
Being a bit like the master can certainly create more successes for your organization’s future.
